The Essex Serpent x My Pattern Design

I'm thrilled to share that my pattern design inspired by the Arts and Crafts movement was used in the official poster for the Apple TV series The Essex Serpent.
Seeing my work featured in a project of this scale is an incredible experience!

Inspiration Behind the Pattern

This design was inspired by the intricate, nature-driven aesthetics of the Arts and Crafts movement, particularly the works of William Morris. I wanted to create a pattern that feels timeless—rich in detail, organic in form, and deeply connected to traditional textile art. The flowing botanical elements and classic color palette reflect the handcrafted feel of historical prints while remaining versatile for modern applications.

Why It Fits the Aesthetic of The Essex Serpent

Set in Victorian England, The Essex Serpent embraces a moody, atmospheric aesthetic, deeply influenced by historical design and period-accurate details. The pattern aligns with the show’s visual storytelling, reinforcing the connection to nature, folklore, and the intricate beauty of the 19th century. It blends seamlessly with the world of the series, enhancing its immersive historical feel.

In addition to the TV show, my pattern was also featured on the cover of the The Essex Serpent book edition. This was an exciting moment, as the design was chosen to complement the atmospheric and historical tone of the story.
